You can also apply these beautiful bright colors by using a lip liner pencil. This will not only make your lipstick color stay longer, it will also prevent your color from bleeding and will make your lips look fuller.

Eyeliner and lush lashes

This season, the eyeliner is extremely popular; don’t be afraid to draw a cat-like eyeliner! The eyeliner can be applied on the upper and lower lids.

For long-lasting eyeliner, try using a gel eyeliner and applying it with an angled brush. Gel liners stay on longer and give you that dark color you want. Try using Bobbi Brown or Shu Uemura gel liner.

Full, long, lush lashes!

I am loving this years faux lashes. For those who are not blessed with long, full lashes, the best and easy way to get the look is by using a one strip lash.

How to apply false lashes;

1-      Clean your natural lashes, don’t use any oily cleaners or oily eye creams, since the oil will prevent the fake lash to glue on.

2-      You will probably need to cut off a bit from the ends of your fake lashes so the tips won’t poke the corner of your eyes.

3-      Make sure that you are comfortable with the length of the lashes itself, if you find them to long, start cutting a bit from each lash.

4-     Apply a little amount of glue on your fake lashes and delicately place them on your natural lashes, you can do so using your fingers or using tweezers , keep eyes slightly closed so the glue won’t stick to the bottom lashes. Using your fingers, gently press the glued fake lashes onto your natural lashes.

5-   For those who have straight lashes, slightly curl your lashes with a lash curler, I love using a Shu Uemura’s curler.

6-     Once glued on, apply mascara on your natural and fake lashes. This will ensure your fake lashes to stay on longer. You can use waterproof mascara for an even better protection.

Makeup Monday’s Vol. 25 – How to prevent your eyeshadow from creasing?

Have you ever noticed after wearing eyeshadow for a few hours, your eyeshadow has CREASED? leaving you with a messy uneven look on your eyes!!

Hair & makeup by Sylva K & Team, photography by Brian Huynh

You’re eyeshadow is creasing because it has been broken down by moisture. This happens either from the natural oils of your skin or from warm weather. Oily eyelids are a problem for many people, no matter what  their skin type is!

HERE IS THE SOLUTION,

There are a few simple steps that you can follow that can help your eyeshodow not to crease anymore.

When applying eye cream (before your makeup application) don’t apply it on your eye lids. Why? Because eye creams work to plump up fine lines and wrikles. Now imagin if you apply it on your eye lids, you can be left with puffy eyelids and let’s not mention your oily eye lid problem!!

I suggest to simply add your eye cream underneath and the the sides of your eyes.

Another thing you can do to prevent your eyeshadow from creasing is to cover your entire eye lid with your FACE POWDER. The powder will give you a dry base and because it’s no longer oily, you’ll find that your eye shadow will blend easier when applying.

If you’ve tried these steps and you’re still having creasing issues, try an eye shadow PRIMER. Eyeshadow primers work wonders when it comes to keeping your eye makeup in place for an entire day.

HOW TO APPLY A PRIMER?

Very easy! Simply put a bit on your eyelid and blend it in gently with your finger for an even application. Wait for a few seconds for it to dry before applying your eyeshadow.

DID YOU KNOW?

You can also apply primer before lipstick, and foundation!

Have a wonderful Monday,

Makeup Monday’s Vol 24 – Facts About Makeup!

Some interesting historical facts on MAKEUP

Did you know,

- The word COSMETIC was originally found from the latin word COSMETAE (which described the slaves during the roman times, who use to bathe influent romans in perfume)

-  Higher class women in the Victorian times would wear very little makeup. Prostitutes, actresses and working class women were the ones who wore makeup on an every day basis.

- Back in the Renaissance times women wanted PORCELAIN white skin, therefore they used Arsenic powder as a foundation. That was immediately discontinued after realizing it was a very unhealthy method.

- The Egyptian times was when makeup had first made it’s appearance. Women use to apply dark colors under their eyelids and darkening their lashes. Difference was, they used CHARCOAL instead eyeliner and mascara. Other natural element were used during those times, such as flower for perfume, Hena for nail polish and beats to stain their lips and checks.

- Ancient romans hated wrinkles, freckles and sunspots,  so to soften WRINKLES they would use Swans fat or donkeys milk, and for sores and freckles, they used ashes of a snail.

Makeup Monday’s Vol 23. – How to determine your skin type and find out what foundation works best for you!

Hi everyone,

Today we will help you determine your skin type and help you choose what foundation will suit you best!

You can consider the following descriptions of different skin types…

Dry Skin     - Skin is usually tight (mostly after washing your face)
                          – visible lines around your mouth, forhead or even around your eyes
                          - face seems very flaky

Normal Skin  – T-zone is usually the oiliest part of your face.
                                - Skin has a smooth texture
                                - You either have monthly breakouts or ” once in a blue moon” type of breakouts

Oily Skin      – Very oily/shiny around your nose/chin/forhead
                           – You have enlarged pores (maily around your cheeks)
                           – You have acne breakouts/whiteheads/blackheads
                           - Your skin flaks around your nose/chin (which are accumulated dried oils)

After deciding what skin type you have, now you can determine what foundation best suits your skin…

Dry Skin - Use a foundation fortified with moisturizers, For very dry skin, try using an oil – based foundation.

Normal Skin - If you have clear skin, you can use a tinted moisturizer, a sheer foundation which will give your skin a natural glow.

Oily Skin – Use a water-based foundation that also has oil-blotting ingredients in it.

Now, you know how you can walk out with clearer, healthier-looking skin!

Have a beautiful day!

Makeup Monday’s Vol. 20 – The Importance Of Brushes!

Hello Everyone!!

Today’s topic is on the importance of using multiple makeup brushes to achieve the flawless look you’ve always dreamed of!

I always personally thought it was funny hearing clients/friends or even family saying the famous line ”wow, you have a lot of brushes” I seriously feel that whoever invented the saying ” brushes are a makeup artists best friend” was 100% correct!!!!

Christina Esteban Photography

And that is why today I will be describing different brushes and what exactly they are used for.

For example…

Eyeshadow : For a proper smooth look, you should have a firm rounded brush, which is used for applying the eyeshadow onto your eyelids. Then you would need a blending brush (this is a very important brush, which I feel that many people do not have). The blending brush is used to blend the colors smoothly into one another allowing there to not be any hard edges. The difference between them both is, the blending brush is wider and fluffier, which allows you to blend the colors in together, where as the rounded brush does not.

Now for your foundation: Everyone has their own preferences! Such as, the foundation brush, sponges or applying their foundation with their hands. There are two types of foundation brushes, the flat one and the fibre-optic brush. The flat one is more precise, therefore, it is best used underneath the eyes. Where as, the fibre-optic brush is best for a flawless, airbrushed look.

Is there a difference between a blush brush and a bronzer/power brush? There is none, right?

WRONGGG!! :)

The bronzer brush is much larger/puffier than the blush brush to allow the bronzer/powder to go on evenly all over your face, rather then the blush brush is smaller, which allows the blush to stay in one specific area of the cheek.

DID YOU KNOW??
- That an angle brush can be used for applying black eyeliner? and also for penciling in your eyebrows with a powder eyeshadow? It’s a 2 in 1 type of brush!!

Hope you enjoyed this Makeup Monday tip!

Have a wonderful day,

Makeup Monday’s Vol. 18 – The Importance Of Sunscreen!

Tanned skin is a sign that your pigment cells, what we call melanocytes, are getting excited, actually trying to protect you from the UV damage by forming pigment.

Both UVA and UVB  rays can promote damage to the epidermis and dermis, and can cause skin cancer and cause your skin to age.

The only way of to combat skin cancer and signs of aging related to sun exposure would be the use of sunscreen on regular basis. Applying half a teaspoon of SPF 30 on your face half - hour before any sun exposure and re – applying it frequently every single day will block off both UVA and UVB rays.

I know it is said that little sun exposure is good for your skin cause it has Vitamin D! I suggest to just take a daily supplement!

Here is a little breakdown of what can happen throughout the years if you don’t protect your skin from sun exposure.

20S without sunscreen

Your skin starts to lose its glow and fine line will appear around the eyes and mouth.

30S without sunscreen

Fine lines will show more and your Skin will appear more brown and red.

40S without sunscreen

Your skin will form brown spots. Appearance of more fine lines and broken blood vessels and capillaries will appear mostly in the nose and check area.

40S without sunscreen

Skin will lose its elasticity and will appear dirty looking. Lines will be more pronounced. Pores are bigger and lines will appear more around the eyes and mouth

60S without sunscreen

Skin will lose even more elasticity and appear dirtier. Lines around the eyes and nose will be more pronounced. Warty and brown spots will appear and can possibly be pre-cancerous.

I suggest Nelly Devuyst sunscreen SPF30+

Makeup Monday’s Vol. 17 – The Beauty Of Pigment

There are so many things you can do with pigments!

Here is a quick definition of pigment. Pigment is a high concentrated loose coloured powder and it comes in variety of colors.

Try Mac Cosmetic’s pigments!

Did you know that you can actually make your own lip gloss with pigment? Simply mix the pigment of your choice with a clear lip gloss and voila!!! You’re custom made lip gloss!

Did you know you can make your own nail polish color?  Add pigment of your choice in a clear nail polish bottle and mix. Yes, this it true! It’s a perfect way to match your nails with your eye makeup.

Did you know you can even creat your own “liquid” eye liner? All you need to do is mix the pigment with a bit of water and draw your line with an angled brush. This technique will actully make your liner stay longer cause the pigment is actually drying on your eye.

Pigments are amazing products and there is so much more you can do with these magical powders. Don’t be afraid to play and try new things with them.
